Class Etiquette and Behavioral Guidelines:
Students are requested to change for class in the changing room or bathroom. Please leave clothes neatly on hooks provided with shoes tucked under the changing room bench. There is limited space and this will ensure everyone will be able to find their things after class. Parents of younger students: Please do not change your children in the reception area. As you enter, please go directly to the changing room to your right.
Please wait quietly!
External noise can be very distracting to students' concentration in class. Be ready as soon as your class is invited in to the studio. To avoid disruption in class please try and use the bathroom before class begins. Parents of young students are requested to check if their child needs to use the bathroom before getting them ready for class. Undressing in dance attire can be quite a challenge for the little ones! Once class has begun, students should give their full attention and cooperation to the teacher. Dance and music and theatre lessons are a time of concentration, focus and discipline. Students are reminded that talking in class is not permitted unless asking or answering a question.
- Be in class on time, in the proper attire with hair done neatly.
- Students are expected to be polite and courteous to their teacher and fellow students.
- Students arriving late for class are requested to knock and wait to be invited in.
- Students must always ask permission to leave the class.
- Please inform your teacher if you have an injury or need to leave class early before the class begins.
- Chewing gum is not permitted in class.
- No jewelry may be worn in class except small post earrings.
- Swearing or any form of inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

Punctuality:
As a courtesy to your teacher and fellow students, please be on time for class. It is recommended that students arrive ten minutes before the start of class. Dance students in grade 2 and above, arriving more than ten minutes late for class may be asked to sit and watch class if the warm up has been completed. This is to prevent injury to the student and should not be regarded as 'punishment' as we understand that both parents and students have busy schedules. Many things can be learned through observation and students who are asked to watch will be expected to participate in class time question and answers and rhythm exercises. In the case of tardiness, please knock on the studio door and wait to be invited in before entering.
Absences:
Please notify the studio if your child is going to be absent. This will help the teacher in planning classes and may enable us to delay teaching important new work. Missed classes can not be made up, nor credit given for missed classes. Please note: Music students with three unexcused absences will have their time slot given to a student on the waiting list. No refunds will be given. Please make sure you inform the school in writing when an absence is expected. Make-up classes are not available for music students.
Injuries:
Students who have an injury are encouraged to attend class and watch. Students learn a lot through observation. No refunds will be given to students who are absent due to injury.
Cancellations:
We do not follow public school closings. In case of inclement weather or state of emergency, please call the studio and listen for the message regarding class cancellations. Every effort will be made to contact students in the case of cancellation due to teacher illness. If classes are cancelled due to inclement weather, state of emergency or teacher illness, every effort will be made to make-up classes. Make-up classes will be scheduled at the earliest possible time.
School Closings:
Please note that MAPAC does not follow the public school closings. Please note scheduled 'Vacations and Holidays' as listed on the registration form. Check the bulletin and newsletters for these dates as well. In the case of inclement weather or state of emergency, please check the message at the studio by calling 301 829-4244 to see if classes will be held as scheduled.
